It’s a great time of year to get organized and take a step back. We used data from previous industry surveys to determine the most important design trends for our living spaces in 2022.
The top home design ideas of 2022 are
often reworked concepts that we have seen in previous years. But this isn’t
because of a lack imagination. This is most likely due to our
preference and needs. We live in a world that values
self-assurance and uniqueness.

trends interior designers and architects have seen develop over time. And which
ones they believe will disappear as we move closer to 2022.
Seeing Green
Research has shown that plants in the home can help with focus and relaxation, as well improve indoor air quality. This was even before COVID-19 lockdowns. Now that many people have settled into a work-from home lifestyle, they are looking for ways to bring the outside in to their homes.
Biophilic design concepts have become increasingly popular in recent
years. They focus on creating tranquil, plant-filled spaces that allow for a
connection to nature. In 2022, it appears that indoor
lushness will increase.
However, it will not be just
greenery-filled living spaces and places to work that are popular over the next
12 months. Interiors with green paint will be all the rage. From whimsical
accents on bathroom cabinets to completely painted living rooms walls,
green-painted interiors could be found everywhere.
You can add whimsical touches to any
room with wallpapers or fabrics that feature flora- and fauna prints. You can think of harness leaf themes or forest-inspired colors, no
matter if you choose to keep your indoor garden thriving or decorate your home
with emeralds and moss accents.

Reclaimed Materials
It seems that we will also be searching
for “greener materials” in the coming year. According to an online marketplace’s Interior Designer Trends Survey
which polled interior designers about their preferences for 2022, sustainable
materials will rule the future.
There was a frenzy for property
purchases in 2020 and 2021. Many felt compelled by their utility
to purchase products, rather than their durability. More people will abandon these habits, it seems. Interiors could be the antidote, offering a longer shelf life and
elegant, efficient products that are timeless.
It is also possible to use reclaimed
wood or stone in interior design and building.
The repurposing of old materials may
be a trend in building approaches. Instead of creating new structures, we are looking to improve the performance
and efficiency of existing structures. This trend has slowly emerged over the years as we have seen innovative
adaptive reuse projects, ranging from barn conversions and warehouse
restorations.

Textures with earthy notes
Expect to see tactile materials like
leather, plaster, copper, and copper as well as finishes with natural textures. I predict that 2022 will bring us more earthier finishes such as
plaster, clay and lime washes.
Textures like tougher clay and
scraped mortar will be used more often. They have been a popular interior finish due to their ability to
withstand water and be made waterproof. But I believe that they will start to
find their way onto furniture and other outdoor surfaces.

Experts believe that more people are
seeking out antique, handcrafted, and vintage furniture and decor to decorate
their homes. The attraction to craft objects is
greater now that people are more aware of the difficulty involved in making
them.
There is a growing appreciation for
crafts skills with the introduction of natural wine and archival fabrics in
fashion. It is becoming more popular to use
intricately designed and antique decorative shapes than the more modern,
Memphis-influenced designs.
We may see more vestibules or
corridors, libraries and console stations in 2022. Think consoles, throne-like chairs and sideboards to store furniture. For accessories, consider large table lamps and large candlesticks.
Also, think about quilts, rustic linens, patterns and highly textured pottery.
It is possible to see more
experimentation in the use of edge features like ruffles or pleats and tassels
in upholstery than with more conservative materials. While some decorative elements might have been too traditional, they can
be more contemporary and vibrant when combined with bolder patterns and colors.
Wavy Geometry
Round elements will still be in fashion in 2022. But, they will become more popular in other parts of the home. While wavering undulations were recently seen in furniture, they will be more common in millwork and stone backsplash details in the future. You can use the pattern in a variety of situations.
Expect to see more curvilinear elements in your home.
Also, expect sofas with rounded edges, arched doors and windows. For this trend to
continue, you can incorporate circular structural features such as waterfall
corners in consoles, countertops and workstations. Alternatively, choose
less-permanent designs such as drum tables.
